What is BlackBerry
BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is a proprietary Internet-based instant messenger and video-telephony application included on BlackBerry devices that allows messaging (and videocalls for BlackBerry 10 smartphones) between BB users. It was developed by the manufacturer of the BlackBerry [formerly Research In Motion (RIM)]. Messages sent via BlackBerry Messenger are sent over the Internet and use the BB PIN system, so communication is only possible between BB devices.

BBM for iOS and Android
Thorstein Heins, President and CEO, BlackBerry told that being a synonymous with smartphones for last 10 years, it will now entertain the Android and iOS market. Finally, for a BBM users there is something to cheer about, BBM the popular chat client used by BB users will be soon available on iOS and Android operating system. As per first announcement on 14 may, 2013 the initial version will provide :

2. Voice note sharing
3. BlackBerry Groups, where BBM users are able to set up groups of 4. up to 30 people and share calendar, photos, files and more.

Some Facts about BlackBerry
- 1. A Canada based company, Research In Motion popularly known as RIM developing BlackBerry devices since 1996.
- 2. The name is derived from fruit BlackBerry due to resemblance of its keys with seeds in the fruit.
- 3. The black colour is chosen because at that time, most of the devices were being launched in a black colour.
- 4. The first Device launched by BB was 2-way Pager, back in 1999.
- 5. It is estimated that the total of 50+ million devices were sold since its launch.
- 6. In present scenario, it is more popular for its messaging features, as compared to any other Smartphone makers.
- 7. BlackBerry services are available in near-about 100 countries with around 500 service providers.
