How to Register Complaint Against TV programs & News Channels

India, is a country of morals and values but in recent years crime against women rises to a alarming level. New Delhi has the highest number of rape-cases in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau India, 24,206 rape cases were registered in 2011, where a new case is reported every 20 to 25 minutes. According to a BBC report in February 2013, more than 7,200 children are raped each year in India.



India, a country where News Channel keeps on showing the rape cases and protests throughout the day. Isn't it a duty of Electronic Media, not to indulge itself in news related to Sex ? Some News channels not even bother to blur the images or videos. They keep on running the same news with exclusive footage all day along on the name of TRP moreover Department of Women and Child Development, India and the National Commission for Women, India keep their eyes shut on such news shown on News Channels. Whose responsibility is this to take action against such a vulgar content shown over T.V. Channels.

Registering Online Complaints

You can file a complaint either online or through post to Electronic Media Monitoring Center.
  • To file an online complaint, you have to visit the link below and register as a user Electronic Media Monitoring Centre 
  • Alternatively, you can download the application format here : Application Form
  • Now, post it on the address provided in the application or you can send as an attachment via Email at : Broadcast Content Complaints Council India [BCCC] : bccc@ibfindia.com and alternatively on Indian Broadcasting Foundation [IBF] : ibf@ibfindia.com 
  • On receiving a consumer complaint, the agency validates the information against the official records. If the complaint is valid, it is forwarded to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which can then take strict action against the party that has violated the law.

 

News Broadcaster Association [NBA] is another agency which seeks consumer complaints against unlawful reporting. It is an industry consortium for news broadcast channels and aims to promote self-regulation in news reporting. It is a private entity and not a government agency.
