India is celerating its 66th Republic day on 26th January 2015. This time USA President Barrack Obama is going to be the chief guest of India. Today, we are presenting you the list of some of the Chief Guests from around the world. Some unknown facts about Chief Guests of Republic Day Parades in India.
- On 1st republic day of India on 26 Jan. 1950, the chief guest was Indonesian President Sukarno.
- Obama will be 57th Chief Guest of India on Republic Day in 2015.
- Obama will be the 30th President of any country to witness the Indian Republic Day parade.
- Till now, we have 13 PMs Chief Guests from various countries on Republic Day.
- On 65th Republic day in 2014, we have Japanese PM Shinzo Abey as Chief Guest.
- Till now, only 2 women witnessed Indian Republic day as chief guest. After 14 years of Indian Independence, in 1961, Queen Elizabeth II was first woman chief guest on Republic day parade.
- After 5 decades in 2012, we had the second woman Chief guest on republic day parade. She was the first woman PM of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra.
- From Bhutan we have 3 chief guests from the Royal Family in year 1954, 1984, 2005 and 2013. King of Bhutan Jigme Dorji Wangchuk being the first in 1954, followed by Jgme Singaye Wangchuk in 1984 and 2005, and Jigme Khesar Namgayal Wangchuk in 2013.
- Among other Kings, we had King of Cambodia - Nirodham Singhanuk in 1963, King of Spain - Juan Carlos in 1982, King of Nepal - Birender Bir Bikram Shah Dev in 1999 and King of Saudi Arabia - Shah Abdulla Bin Abdullaziz Al Saud in 2006.
- France has most number of Chief Guests on Indian Republic day parades - four. Jack Shirak in 1976 as PM of France and as President in 1998. Besides that President Vellari Jiscard in 1980 and President Nicolas Sarcozi in 2008.
- From Russia, we had the President Climent Voroshilev [USSR] in 1960, PM Alexi Kosiying in 1968, President Vladimir Putin in 2007.
- Among other chief guests there were Mauritius Prime Ministers Shivsagar Rangulam in 1972 and Anirudh Hagannath in 1990. Brazil Presidents Fernando Henrick Cardoso in 1996 and Luis Inasio Lula De Silva in 2004. From Nigeria, there were Presidents Shehu Shagari in 1983 and Olusegan Obashanjo in 2000. From Pakistan Governor General Malik Gulam Mohd. in 1955 and Agriculture Minister Rana Abdul Hameed in 1965. From Sri Lanka, PM Shirimavo Bhandaranaike in 1974 and President Junius Jayawardene in 1988.
