[PDF] CTL 2014 and IPTL 2014 Schedules | Champions Tennis League vs International Premier Tennis League

Yet Another Sports league in India; this time it is Champions Tennis League. Sporting Revolution continues in India, after just 6-7 months of announcement of International Premier Tennis League, we have another Tennis league in India, CTL 2014, brain-child of former Indian Tennis Star Vijay Amritraj. Before this Mahesh Bhupati-backed ITPL was announced earlier this year in February.


India is already hosting number of private sports leagues in hockey, cricket, badminton, kabaddi and recently football. It started-off with Hockey back in 2005, with launch of Premier Hockey League [PHL]. The schedules for both the tennis leagues have been announced. We are flashing light upon both the leagues today.

 

International Premier Tennis League [IPTL]

It was announced by Mahesh Bhupathi in Feb 2014, bringing together greats of the game. The tournament is based in 4 Asian cities and will be played on round robin basis. IPTL matches are to be hosted by Delhi [India], Singapore, Manilla [Philippines], Dubai [United Arab Emirates]. Initially Bangkok and Mumbai Franchise were there, which were replaced by Manilla and Delhi respectively due to lack of clarity over the business model progress. Indian broadcaster Star Sports has picked up the rights to telecast the inaugural IPTL.

 

 

Format of IPTL 

IPTL spends nearly $24 million on inaugural teams. Players auction took place in Dubai on March 2, 2014. Four teams consisting of up to ten players will compete in 24 best-of-five round robin matches which will take place across the four cities between November 28 and December 13, consisting of a set each for men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, mixed double.

Champions Tennis League 2014 [CTL]

Champions Tennis League 2014 is going to held from 17 - 26 November 2014, across six Indian cities : Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore & Chandigarh. The 10 day tournament will be aired live on Sony SIX.

 

 

 

Format of CTL 2014

CTL will have 13 matches played over the 10-day period, with the teams structured into two groups, each having three teams, where all teams play each other. Each team will play the other two teams on a home and away basis to decide the group standings. The top team of each group will then face each other in the final. The teams with the highest number of matches  won in their respective group, will play each other in the grand finale to win prize money of Rs 1 crore. The runner-up will get Rs 50 lakh.

The player draft was conducted without any auction with each team picking four players from a pool of 24. The player pool consisted of six legends, six international men, six international women and six Indians with only the Mumbai franchise missing the proceedings.
