Today, we are giving you some kitchen tips. Sometimes, we are not aware of very small things around us, can serve us in a better and cheap way. You know all of those helpful kitchen-related suggestions that old-timers are so willing to share with the younger generations ? These little tips and tricks might be called kitchen hacks these days, but they are still the same good old nuggets of wisdom that they always were. Some of these gems have been around for several lifetimes - and according to most grandmas, they really work. Check out this exhaustive list of tips.



  1. Got your hands burn while cooking food. Don't worry, put your hand under tap, pour water on it. Now, apply onion chunks on it. The analgesic agent present in onion will provide you relief.
  2. Put one teaspoonful of Baking soda in Rose water [Gulab Jal]. Now, apply the paste beneath your neck, under arms, backside of ears. Wash it after 10 minutes to get rid of bad body smell.
  3. For cleaning smelly hands after chopping onions or garlic, just rub them on a stainless steel spoon. The steel is supposed to absorb the odor.
  4. Drinking cranberry juice and eating blueberries regularly will help stave off urinary tract infections.
  5. For splinters under the fingernail, soaking the affected finger in a bowl of milk with a piece of bread in it is said to draw out the splinter.
  6. Fresh coffee beans can also be used to absorb nasty odors from your hands.
  7. Never store your bananas in a bunch or in a fruit bowl with other fruits. Separate your bananas and place each in a different location. Bananas release gases which cause fruits to ripen quickly. Separating them will keep them fresh longer.
  8. Got pimple scars on  your face. Massage your face with mixture of fresh coconut water and honey. Wash it, when dried.
  9. Before making popcorn, soak the kernels in water for 10 minutes. Drain the water, then pop as normal. The additional moisture helps the popcorn pop up quicker and fluffier with fewer old maids.
  10. Baking soda is an extremely effective cleaner, though. Use it with vinegar to deodorize drains and clean stovetops and sinks.
  11. If you burned a pot of rice, just place a piece of white bread on top of the rice for 5-10 minutes to draw out the burned flavor. Be careful not to scrape the burned pieces off of the bottom of the pan when serving the rice.
  12. Apply methyl spirit on rubber mats used in refrigerator once in a month. It increases life of a rubber mats.
  13. For low blood pressure problems, eat raw cheese [Paneer]. It is really helpful in maintaining the BP problems.
  14. Before making chunks of potato, boil it in water with teaspoonful of vinegar [Sirka]. It allows fast boiling and easy cutting.
  15. Keep dried peels of orange in safe place. Put some peels while boiling water for making tea. It will add extra flavour to tea.
  16. For making curd easily, put green chilly in boiled milk. Keep it in warm place, you will get the best of the curds in morning.
  17. When storing empty airtight containers, throw in a pinch of salt to keep them from getting stinky.
  18. Never increase or decrease refrigerator temperature all of a sudden, but if it is providing enough cooling, then you need to check leakage in compressor. 
  19. Clean your refrigerator with chunk of Mint [Pudina] or Lemon juice or Rose water, to avoid the bad smells.
  20. To banish ants from the kitchen, find out where they are coming in and cover the hole
    with petroleum jelly. Ants won’t trek through the jelly. If they are coming under a door, draw a line on the floor with chalk. The little bugs also won’t cross a line of chalk. 
  21. To clean cast iron cookwear, don’t use detergents. Just scrub them with salt and a clean, dry paper towel.
  22. Before you chop chili peppers, rub a little vegetable oil into your hands and your skin won’t absorb the spicy chilli oil.
  23. To clean fruit stains off of your fingers, rub them with a fresh, peeled potato. White vinegar can also do the trick.
  24. Water that has been boiled and allowed to cool will freeze faster than water from the tap. This comes in handy when you’re having a party and need ice pronto.
  25. If your kitchen sink got jammed, try a mixture of vinegar, baking soda and salt. It will remove all the stuff stucked there inside the sink.


  1. A cotton ball soaked in white vinegar and applied to a fresh bruise will reduce the darkness of the bruise and help it disappear sooner.
  2. Apply pinch of a salt, on inner sides of refrigerator, to avoid freezing of ice droplets around the freezing section.
  3. When you burn yourself in the kitchen, just spread mustard on the affected area. Leave it for a while and it will ease the pain and prevent blistering.
  4. When you clean your fish tank, the water you drain can also be used to water your house plants. The nitrogen and phosphorus in fish droppings make aquarium water a great fertilizer.
  5. Drinking mixture of Indian Gooseberry [Amla] - 10g and Honey - 10g gives relief from acidity.
  6. Summer is on, if you are having headache, apply paste of Coriander for instant relief.
  7. To keep cookies fresh, savvy grannies like to put some crumpled-up tissue paper in the bottom of the cookie jar.
  8. Always keep an aloe vera plant in your kitchen. It’s invaluable when you scrape your arm or burn your finger. Just break off a leaf and rub the gel from the inside on the injury.
  9. To help old wooden drawers (without runners) open and close smoothly, rub a candle on the tracks.
  10. To peel off tomato rapidly, stuck fork in it, give it heat from all sides, it will get removed automatically.
  11. If your loaf of bread is starting to go stale, just put a piece of fresh celery in the bag and close it back up. For some reason, this restores a fresh taste and texture to the bread.
  12. To get rid of mouth ulcers, just crush the Henna [Mehandi] leaves in glass of water. In morning, wash your mouth with that water.
  13. The same procedure is also applicable in case of Jaundice. 
  14. Remove tea or coffee stains from your fine china by mixing up a paste of baking soda, lemon juice, and cream of tartar. Rub it over the stains and they will come off easily.
  15.  If your milk always goes bad before you can finish it, try adding a pinch of salt to the carton when you first open it. It will stay fresh days longer.
  16. Drink of cola for an upset tummy. It is actually pretty effective remedy. The sugar and carbonation can soothe many tummy problems - but it can also exacerbate others.
  17. If your salt is clumping up, put a few grains of rice in it to absorb excess moisture.
  18. To keep your jewels free of moisture or rust, put a piece of chalk in container. It will absorb the extra moisture.
  19. Mix lemon juice, honey, almond oil [Badaam Tel] in equal quantity. Apply it on face and keep it for 15 minutes. To get the best of the results, apply it three times in a week.
  20. Pour some lemon juice on tiled floor. After 10 minutes, scrub it with toothbrush. It will easily remove rust of gas cylinders.
  21. Keep iceberg lettuce fresh in the fridge by wrapping it in a clean, dry paper towel and storing lettuce and paper towel in a sealed baggie in the fridge.
  22. To clean an electric kettle with calcium buildup on the heating element, boil a mixture of half white vinegar and half water, then empty.
  23. Never put citrus fruits or tomatoes in the fridge. The low temperatures degrade the aroma and flavor of these pernickety fruits.
  24. For aluminum pans that are looking dull, just boil some apple peels in them. This will brighten up the aluminum and make your house smell yummy.
  25. This one is weird; apply your own urine, if you get burnt by hot water or tea. It prevents from any type of black scars.
