- ADIDAS - The name is taken from the name of founder Adolf (Adi) Dassler (das).
- AMUL - Amul stands for Anand Milk Union Limited, a company founded in 1946 is based out of a small town in Gujarat called Anand. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation is India’s largest exporter of dairy products and also the largest food product marketing organization with an annual turnover of $2.5 billion for 2011-2012.
- APPLE COMPUTER - The favorite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was 3 months late in filing a name for the business and he threatened to call his company Apple computers if the other colleagues didn’t suggest a better name by 5 0'clock.
- AT & T - The American telecom giant came into existence in 1885 as American Telephone and Telegraph, although it's now legally known as just AT&T.
- AUDI - Audi is latin for Horch. The car company Horch Automobile Werke was founded in 1899. This company was founded by ex-employee of Benz August Horch with about 3 partners.
- BMW - It was founded on October 1913 by Karl Friedrich Rapp as an aircraft engine factory. In 1928, BMW took the vehicle factory Eisenach A.G. on, where the tiny Dixi car was built. It was the start for the Bayerische Motoren Werke. Bavaria is a German state.
- BPL - BPL stands for British Physical Laboratories. This Indian electronics company deals with consumer appliances, home entertainment products and health care devices. It was established in 1963, by TPG Nambiar.
- CEAT - CEAT is an abbreviation for Cavi Elettrici e Affini Torino, is a Mumbai based tyre manufacturing company. CEAT tyres were founded in Italy by Virginio Bruni Tedeschi and the company established its manufacturing in India in 1958.
- CISCO - The name is not a acronym as popularly believed. It is a short for San Francisco.
- COCA-COLA - The beverage name is derived from the coca leaves and kola nuts used as flavoring. Coca-Cola creator John S. Pemberton changed the 'K' of kola to 'C' to make the name look better.
- COMPAQ - This name was formed by using com, from computer, and PAQ to denote a small integral object.
- COREL - It stands for Cowpland Research Laboratory. The name was derived from the founder’s name Dr. Michall cowpland.
- DHL - The name DHL is derived from the last names of three entrepreneurs, Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn who founded the company in 1969. DHL provides international express, air and ocean freight, road and rail transportation, contract logistics and international mail services to its customers.
- FIAT - It was founded in 1899 in Turin, Italy at the initiative of Giovanni Agnelli. In 1900, the first 24 cars rolled off the assembly line at the factory in Corso Dante, including 3/12 HorsePower.
- FORD - Henry Ford and eleven investors founded the Ford Motor Company on June 16, 1903 in Michigan. The first model was the Ford Model A that cost $750.
- GOOGLE - The company was originally named as “GOOGOL”. The word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. The name started as a joke boasting about of information the search engine would be able to search. After founder, Stanford graduate student Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angle in vestor. They received a cheque made out to “GOOGLE” .
- HMT - HMT was formerly known as Hindustan Machine Tools, was incorporated in 1953 by the Government of India. Some of the company’s products include watches, tractors, printing machinery and plastic processing machinery among others.
- HMV - HMV founded in London, United Kingdom, in 1921 is the British global entertainment retail chain, an abbreviation of "His Master's Voice". Apart from being listed on the London Stock Exchange, the company also operates in Hong Kong and Singapore.
- HONDA - The name Honda is derived from the name of its founder Soichiro Honda. On September 24, 1948 Honda was founded in Hamamatsu and began producing engines for installation in bicycles. Late 60's they entered the international automobile market.
- HP - Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.
- HSBC - The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. It was founded in London in 1991. It was established as a British institution back in 1865 to finance trade between China and Europe by a Scot.
- HTC - Cher Wang, H. T. Cho and Peter Chou founded HTC in 1997. HTC Corporation, formerly High Tech Computer Corporation, is a Taiwanese manufacturer of smartphones and tablets headquartered in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
- HYUNDAI - The name is Korean for modernity. In 1967, under the name of Hyundai cars, they assembled Ford cars in South Korea. Later Hyundai developed its own models.
- IBM - IBM is abbreviation of International Business Machines Corporation. It is a multinational technology and consulting corporation. The company was founded in 1911 and headquartered in the United States.
- ING Group - The name is an abbreviation of Internationale Nederlanden Groep, or "International Netherlands Group". One of the World's biggest Dutch banking giant. Most of the company buildings are coloured in the color orange that marks it as the Netherlands' origin. Orange is the color of the Dutch royal family dating all the way back to William of Orange. ING Vysya Bank is a name of the ING branch in India, which was merged with Vyasa bank of India in 2002.
- INTEL - Originally, Intel is an acronym of Integrated Electronics. Bob Noyce and Gordom Moore wanted to name their new company “Moor Noyce” but that was already taken by a hotel chain so they declared it as Intel.
- ITC - ITC is India Tobacco Company. It was founded on August 28, 1910 as Imperial Tobacco Company of India. The Indian public conglomerate has diversified business operations in FMCG markets, hotels, paperboards, packaging, agri-business and information technology.
- L&T - L&T stands for Larsen & Toubro, is India’s multinational conglomerate corporation which is headquartered in Mumbai. The company’s business includes technology, engineering, construction and manufacturing goods.
- MAGGI - The Food company named after its founder, Julius Maggi
- MERCEDES - It is the name of the daughter of the founder.
- MICROSOFT - The name was coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to MICRO Computer Software. Originally there was hyphen in between Micro & soft, the “-“ was removed later on.
- MITSUBISHI - The name breaks down into two parts naely, Mitsu means "three" and "Bishi" means "water chestnut" (The same stands for the diamond shape in the company logo). The origin of company took place back in 1870, when Yataro Iwasaki set up a transport company. In 1917, the Mitsubishi Model A was introduced as the first series-built car in Japan.
- MRF - Madras Rubber Factory is popularly known as MRF, is India’s major tyre manufacturing company founded in 1946 by K M Mammen Mappillai. It is considered to be the largest tyre manufacturer in India which makes all types of tyres, from auto to sedan, bias to radial including tubes and conveyor belts.
- NOKIA - It is a name of river in Finland.
- NISSAN - The company named Kwaishinisha Motorcar Works was founded in Tokyo in 1911. Three years later, the first car, the DAT, is produced. In 1931, the production of Datson took place, means the "SON" of "DAT". Later the name is changed to Datsun because Son in Japanese also means loss. Two years later, the company moved to Yokohama where the name is changed into Nissan Motor Company.
- OPEL - The company named after its founder Adam Opel, founded in 1862 in Rüsselsheim as a manufacturer of sewing machines. In 1885, production was expanded to include bicycles. In 1899, the company (headed by Adams sons) began the production of cars.
- ORACLE - A consulting project for CIA (central intelligence Agency) was being prepared by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner and Ed Oates. The code name for the project was called oracle because the CIA saw this as the system to give answer to all question. The project was designed to help use the newly written SQL code by IBM. The project eventually was terminated but Larry and Bob decided to finish what they started and bring it to the world. They kept the name Oracle and created the RDBMS engine. Later they kept the same name for the company.
- PEPSI - It was named from the digestive enzyme pepsin.
- RENAULT - It was named after founders Marcel, Louis and Fernand Renault. Together with his brothers, Marcel and Fernand, Louis started on 25 February 1899 Renault Frères. In 1898, the Louis(22) converted his tricycle into a four-wheeled vehicle.
- ROLLS ROYCE - It was named after its founders Sir Frederick Henry Royce and Charles Stewart Rolls. Rolls-Royce Limited was founded on March 15, 1906 in Manchester factory. In 2013, Rolls-Royce Ghost starting Price rises to $260,750.
- SAP - SAP was founded in 1972, in Mannheim, Germany. SAP stands for System Analysis and Program Development. This German software company makes enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations.
- SONY - The word originated from the Latin word “Sonus” means sound, and “sonny” as long used by Americans to refer to a bright youngster.
- SUN - Sun is an acronym for Standard University Network. It was founded by Standard University students, Andy Bechtolsheim who built a microcomputer. Alongwith him, Scott McNealy was recruited by Vinod Khosla to manufacture computers based on it and Bill Joy to devolped a UNIX-based OS for Computer.
- SUZUKI - The name taken from the name of its founder, Michio Suzuki who founded it in 1909 and originally made a wide range of products, including weapons and looms. In 1937, they produced a small car based on the Austin Seven.
- SAMSUNG - It means 'three stars' in Korea.
- TOYOTA - The name from the name of founder, Sakichi Toyoda. Sakichi Toyoda received money from his father, to set up his own company. Kiichiro decided to be a car technician. In 1936, he began producing the first model AA. A year later, the factory was renamed Toyota Motor Corporation.
- VOLVO - The name Volvo is Latin for "I rol" and part comes from the Latin verb Volvere Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson, who also had worked at SKF, showed on April 14, 1927 the first Volvo car to the world. This was an American oriented OV4.
- YAHOO - The word invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book “Gullivers’ Travels”. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. The name Yahoo! was selected by Founder Jerry Yang and David Filo because they considered themselves Yahoos.
- YAMAHA - The name is after Torakusu Yamaha, who founded the company. It was originated in 1887 when Yamaha began building reed organ instruments. On July 1, 1955, the Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. established. Yamaha Motor Company was an independent company.
