The FIFA World Cup, often simply the
World Cup, is an international association football
competition contested by the national teams of the members of Federation
Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport's global
governing body. The championship has been awarded every four years since the
inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held
because of the Second World War. The current champions are Spain, who won the

World Cup 2014 Schedule
20th
edition of FIFA World Cup is to be played in Brazil from June 12, 2014
to July 13, 2014. It is second World Cup to be hosted by Brazil after
1950. Brazil was elected unchallenged as host nation in 2007. A total of
64 matches are to be played in twelve cities across Brazil. Eighteen
locations were presented as potential World Cup host cities :

teams have been qualified for the tournament which are now further
arranged in 8 groups of 4 teams each. Each team will play 3 matches
against each other in respective groups. After total 48 matches in group
stage, round of 16 matches to be played between two top teams from each
group.
Each participating team will receive at least US$8 million. The World
Champions will receive $35 million, while the losing finalists will
receive $25 million. Teams that lose in the round of 16 will receive $9
million, and the quarter-finalists receive $14 million.
